The Deschooling Society (conference organizers) would like to extend a great big thank you to all the participants in the unSchooling Oppression conference! In all, we had about 500 different participants over the course of the week’s events, including a few regulars who attended most or all of the conference!

Audio recordings of the conference keynote presentations will be available online for free download soon. We also intend to publish a zine with transcripts from at least one of the talks, and this will probably include a CD with the audio files, more transcripts, speaker bios, presentation summaries, and a recomended reading list. Or something like that. Stay tuned for details!!!

In the very near future (once we’ve finished with the financial details and recovered a little from the past few months of crazy organizing), we also plan to type up and distribute the list of ideas generated in the caucus. There will be a general callout to the community for a meeting where we can discuss and reflect on some of the proposed ideas and determine what we can do here and now to address our own local problems with schooling and education. If you did not sign up to our email list during the week of the conference and wish to receive updates, you can just keep checking back here or send an email to unschoolingoppression@gmail.com and ask to be signed up!

In terms of our budget, we managed to gather enough donations over the course of the week to cover most of our expenses! And this is largely thanks to YOU and all your generous support. Your donations in fact raised DOUBLE the amount of money that we received from the university faculties and departments combined.

Overall, we feel that the conference has been a wonderful success! We look forward to seeing what the future has in store 🙂

Hello! Please note that tonight’s film-screening event has changed slightly.

Due to technical difficulties associated with the previously advertised titles, we will instead be screening “Free to Learn: A Radical Experiment in Education” http://www.freeschoolmovie.com/, which is a wonderful 70-minute documentary about the Albany Free School (Albany, NY).

See you there!
